Q&A With “Papa Earp”- Beau Smith

Interview By: Jennifer Phares

From the moment it was announced that “Papa Earp” himself would be attending the 2017 Lexington Comic and Toy Convention – I was over the moon with excitement. It isn’t everyday that the creator of your favorite graphic novel and in turn, one of your favorite television shows visits your backyard. Okay so perhaps I discovered the graphic novel series AFTER the show but, I digress.

For those of you not familiar with the awesomeness that is Wynonna Earp”; it follows the story of famous lawman, Wyatt Earp’s great granddaughter as she deals with her family’s unique inheritance. That “unique”inheritance just so happens to be a Colt

Buntline Special named “Peacemaker”. By the way did I happen to mention that she is charged with fighting a special brand of demons in a town so named Purgatory? Sounds like one heck of a party if I do say so myself.

Wynonna Earp currently has season one under its belt and production of season two has almost wrapped. As we eagerly await its return on Syfy in June – we have the latest series of comics to feed our appetite.

Mr. Beau Smith was gracious enough to allow me to pick his brain last weekend at the 2017 Lexington Comic and Toy Convention. The interview itself follows what was to be a “short” introduction by yours truly. Said intro lasts about six minutes and I do hope you listen to it; however you are more than welcome to skip ahead. There are a few spoilers in the interview so if you have yet to watch the first season, than this interview should not be listened too. I will say there are a few things that were not recorded as it simply came up in general conversation.

Speaking of passing conversation, I asked Mr. Smith what it was like to attend the filming of season one in Canada. He mentioned that it was quiet cold and how he was initially taken a back by official moose and bear wranglers that were on set. Mr. Smith went on to say that he asked the production staff if the wranglers were there to tranquilize Doc Holiday himself, a.k.a Tim Rozon should he get out of hand.

So without further ado – here is Mr. Beau Smith.

And don’t forget to tune into season two of Wynonna Earp on June 1st – only on Syfy. Season one of Wynonna Earp will be available May 1st on Netflix.
