The event is neigh – in less than one week, GalaxyCon Richmond will be kicking things off in the capital city of my home state, Virginia. As mentioned in my previous article, words can’t accurately describe just how elated I am that in person fan conventions have returned. Now granted – in person fan conventions technically returned last year. However, this is the first year that the majority of the 2022 roster hasn’t been postponed/cancelled/or moved online.
Why are we starting we starting with GalaxyCon, you might ask? The answer – this is the first in person fan convention we have attended since before the pandemic struck a few years ago. This amazing series of fan conventions have been around for the past few years, with no end in sight. Under their current roster – they have events in Richmond, VA, Raleigh, NC, and Columbus, OH. Add to that, thanks to the “lovely” pandemic, GC along with most other conventions have added a virtual streaming option as well.
Established in 2006, GalaxyCon was originally a company that organized large scale fan conventions, including the well-known Florida Supercon. Throughout the years, GC has continued to refine the long standing -rite of passage- in person fan experience. Ask anyone, any fan worth their salt and they will tell you, there is nothing else like it. The joy that illuminates ones’ eyes as they cross over the well-traveled threshold of the sacred convention center.
This upcoming weekend, which has long been overdue and anticipated by many, will most definitely not disappoint. Vendors as far as the eye can see, along with some familiar faces from the entertainment realm, will all be gathered to happily greet their fans. Yours truly is absolutely spellbound to have the once in the lifetime opportunity to meet the “Evil Queen” and the “Wicked Witch” from ABC’s Once Upon a Time – the lovely Ms. Lana Parrilla and Mrs. Rebecca Mader. Other attendees include the “Captain Kirk” – Mr. William Shatner, a rather familiar companion that took a trip in a certain blue police box – Ms. Jenna Coleman, a certain pumpkin king that one may know rather well – Mr. Chris Sarandon, and these are just to name a few.
