Back To The Beginning: Harry Potter Celebrates Twenty Years

On June 26th, 1997, a book was published that would create a worldwide phenomenon that continues being felt to this very day. Penned by author J.K. Rowling, these books would introduce us all to this incredibly fantastical world.  And it all began with these few words: “The boy who lived.” That boy would soon be known around the world as none other than Harry Potter. Alongside his two closest friends, Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger – this trio would encounter unspeakable odds and, in the end, come out on top. Four years following its first publication, Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone would premiere in theaters, bringing to life the book’s 223 pages. Yours truly still remembers that crisp November day back in 2001. Given the tragic events that preceded the movie’s release – 9/11- it was a much-welcomed escape for a lot of people.

Since then, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter has created nine movies – soon to be ten, eleven books (the original seven, the three Hogwarts library books, and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), and one musical. Perhaps the most important thing created by this world is the sense of acceptance, of family. It doesn’t matter what you look like, or who you love, or even what house you’re in – Hogwarts welcomes all. And now, twenty years later, we have been invited back to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to celebrate this incredible journey that began on November 14, 2001.

Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts is a highly anticipated reunion special that will be premiering on HBOMax – New Year’s Day. Several original cast members – including Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Gary Oldman, Robbie Coltrane, Helena Bonham Carter, Tom Felton, and many more.  Until then, please enjoy these amazing photos and trailer from the upcoming special.

*Special thanks to the wonderful folks at HBOMax and Warner Brothers.*
