Two week’s ago, yours truly had the absolute pleasure getting to “sit” down with the cast of Hallmark Channel’s “The Way Home”. If you ask me, I still can’t believe that actually happened! Ahem, without further ado, here is the transcript of our exclusive interview with “Jacob Landry” himself – the lovely Spencer MacPherson.

Stay2uned: “Thank you for taking the time to interview with us today. We truly appreciate it and love what you’re doing as Jacob on The Way Home.”

Spencer: “Thank you! I’m thrilled to be here and chat about it.”

Stay2uned: “How did you first learn about The Way Home?”

Spencer: “It’s not a very exciting story. I learned about it through an audition, as actors often do. I received a self-tape request for a character initially called Isaac Bishop, and the details were quite mysterious. As the process continued, I discovered the magic of The Way Home and this incredible character.”

Stay2uned: “Did you know about the show beforehand?”

Spencer: “No, the audition was my first introduction. Afterward, I binged the entire first season to catch up.”

Stay2uned: “Fair enough. What’s been your experience like joining the show?”

Spencer: “It’s been fantastic. Joining a series in its second season is unique because the cast’s connections are already established. Everyone was incredibly welcoming and helpful, though. Alex, Heather, Marley, and Grant were especially supportive in helping me build Jacob, who’s had 24 years of unseen life since we last saw him. There was a lot to develop, and their warmth and collaboration made the process smooth.”

Stay2uned: “Your portrayal of adult Jacob is phenomenal. It really shines through in every episode. How did you approach bringing this complex character to life, especially with his past, PTSD, and all those layered emotions?”

Spencer: “Thank you! It starts with the scripts. The writers are incredibly thoughtful, putting care into every word. I lock myself in my room and study them closely, finding clues in how Jacob speaks—his word choices, his 1800s mannerisms, and his attempts to adapt to the modern world. He’s constantly shifting, sometimes reverting to his core self from the past, other times showing a childlike desire to fit in with Del, Kat, and others. Playing with that ebb and flow, finding those peaks and valleys episode by episode, is what makes him so dynamic.”

Stay2uned: “Do you have a favorite moment from this season? Feel free to talk about episode six if you’d like.”

Spencer: “There are so many great moments. Growing up, I loved comedy, and this show often leans into darker, introspective themes. But in episode three, I got to explore a lighter side of Jacob. He indulges a bit too much in ‘the sauce,’ revealing a glimpse of who he was with Thomas back in the day—less damaged, almost impenetrable for a moment. The dialogue in those scenes, where he opens up and shares too much, was so fun to play. I loved how it turned out.”

Stay2uned: “That was a hilarious scene! It’s lucky Del didn’t see Kat bringing him home—that would’ve been quite the moment.”

Spencer: “Absolutely!”

Stay2uned: “Definitely a fan favorite. Pivoting to episode six, there’s a bombshell at the end: Jacob learns from Kat that she may have killed their father. He’s already been through so much, and now this. How did you approach that emotionally charged scene, especially with them on the run, trying to get back to the present?”

Spencer: “Jacob is in an extremely fragile state, having been forced to abandon his life in the 1800s and seeing the direct consequences—like the gray sky in his absence. He feels responsible for a lot of that. When Kat, the one person he trusts in the modern world, reveals this betrayal, it breaks something in him.

Coming from an era with different emotional norms, Jacob doesn’t handle feelings the way we do today. There’s a dangerous, almost stray-dog-like quality to him—lovable but unpredictable. In that scene, you see glimmers of something darker inside him, which is both intriguing and a bit scary for the audience.”

Stay2uned: “That scene definitely showed a new side of Jacob through your performance. I’m still recovering from it, and I think fans will love it. Final question, Spencer: what would you like to say to the fans?”

Spencer: “Thank you so much for supporting and theorizing about our little show. We love making it, and we’re grateful for how much you invest in it. I also appreciate you welcoming me into the fold. I know it’s tough to embrace a new version of a character, especially after Remy’s incredible portrayal of young Jacob. I was charmed by his performance too, and as a fan, I understand it’s a big shift. Your support means the world, and there’s plenty more to come.”

Stay2uned: “You’re so welcome! We’re thrilled Kat finally found Jacob, even if that reunion wasn’t what anyone expected. You and the entire cast are amazing at what you do—keep it up.”

Spencer: “Thank you, I really appreciate that.”
