*Spoiler warning: The following article contains spoilers about Syfy’s original show, “Van Helsing.”
It’s hard to believe that the final season of Syfy’s “Van Helsing” is fast approaching. Alas in less than ninety-six hours, episode 5×01 – “Past Tense”, will be premiering. We have recently finished screening the first three episodes of season five, and without giving anything away – y’all are in for one fantastic ride. This of course shouldn’t come as much of a surprise considering everything that we have seen with them over the past few years.
It feels just like yesterday when “Van Helsing” sinked their fangs into my neck and forever changed my life. Just on a side note here – I actually stumbled upon “Van Helsing” half way through season one, on a whim. Per usual, it was thanks in part to simply channel surfing. Once I finished watching that episode, I started to look into the show more thoroughly and the rest, as they, was history. It isn’t everyday that you come across something just so incredibly original. Instead of the usual – you have to be bitten to become a vampire – plot device; you also have it’s polar opposite of – the heroine’s bite can reverse vampirism-. Not to mention a few other interesting perks that are, again, bloody brilliant.
Let’s talk about season five, shall we? At the end of season four, our beloved heroes were having quite a day, so much so that it makes one wonder if that day, was in fact, a Monday… The two sisters, Jack (Nicole Munoz) and Violet (Keeya King) were interestingly separated by a realm or two, the long feared Dark One, a.k.a Dracula (Tricia Helfer), was released into this realm and became the President. Actually, more like she drained said person and glamoured/shapeshifted into her? (Did I forget to mention that Jack is currently trapped in a coffin…such a Monday mood if there’s ever been one.) Meanwhile, Axel (Jonathan Scarfe), Julius (Aleks Paunovic), and Col. Nicholson (Aaron Douglas) were out scouting the Sunshine Unit when things naturally become a bit precarious.
And that, ladies and gentlemen is where “Past Tense” picks up at, this Friday. The general synopsis of the season five premiere is as followed:
“After waking up in the Dark Realm, Jack is sent through a portal with only the words “Kill the Dark One” to guide her. Jack discovers some familiar faces as she hunts for the Dark One.”
For now, check out the season five trailer in addition to a few episodic photos from “Past Tense”, courtesy of the lovely folks over at Syfy/NBC Universal. We’ll also be posting our interview with the cast of “Van Helsing” from yesterday’s press junket. Hope to see you all Friday night at 10:00 PM EST for the season five premiere of “Van Helsing”.
And as always, stay 2uned 😉
