This is one story I never thought I’d have to write—at least not this soon.
Tonight, PEOPLE broke the news that Hallmark Channel has canceled The Way Home. A short press release was issued, but so far, no official reason has been given for the abrupt decision.
Below is the official press release from Hallmark, as shared by PEOPLE:
“Fans of The Way Home have enthusiastically watched and rewatched every episode since the first pond jump of season 1 as they’ve tried to piece together the brilliant puzzle Heather Conkie, Alexandra Clarke and Marly Reed expertly crafted,” Samantha DiPippo, SVP of programming at Hallmark Media, told People. “We’re grateful to our talented cast led by Andie [MacDowell], Chyler [Leigh], Evan [Williams] and Sadie [Laflamme-Snow], as well as our amazing writers and crew who have worked so hard on this show.”
Yes, you read that right.
The utterly unique, fiercely beloved series about a fractured family and their time-traveling pond is officially ending. Season 4—currently filming and wrapping production later this month—is now scheduled for a delayed Spring 2026 premiere instead of its usual January slot.
And it will be its last.
To say this wasn’t on anyone’s bingo card is the understatement of the year.
I’m still in shock. Honestly, most of us are.

The Way Home wasn’t just another Hallmark show. It was one of the network’s strongest performers—consistently topping charts, breaking records, and earning a passionate, vocal fanbase (affectionately known as Ponderers because, well, that pond).
Earlier this year, it even landed on Netflix, introducing a flood of new viewers to the Landry family’s beautiful, heartbreaking, mind-bending story.
And yet… it’s over.
This one hurts.
Honestly, this gut-punch feels eerily reminiscent of a few years ago when Syfy abruptly canceled Wynonna Earp—another passionate, genre-bending fan-favorite—right after announcing a new season. (We all remember how that story ended: the fans screamed loud enough that the show eventually came back for a revival special on Tubi, proving that Earpers could move mountains. Here’s hoping Ponderers can do the same.)

In the end, it’s bittersweet: We still have Season 4 on the horizon, a final plunge into the pond much like Persephone emerging topside for spring’s renewal. But we know the seasons must turn, and this journey will fade. Until then, revisit the magic – seasons 1–3 are streaming now on Hallmark+, and the first two seasons remain on Netflix for anyone who needs to fall in love (or fall apart) all over again.
